Anno 1900 Restaurant Cafe - This is a small restaurant not far (across the street)  from the Russischer Hof hotel.  It is a little more formal and a little more pricey than some other restaurants in town. They do have a menu in English and food is quite good. Depending on the time of year and the time of day you may want to dine, it could be a good idea to get a reservation. This restaurant fills up pretty fast sometimes.

Antonio's Pizza - People from Bad Berka and from Weimar all told us that this place serves the best pizza in Weimar. Our pizza was great. This restaurant is really what you would call a hole in the wall place. Very small and very popular. Tables are crowded together so get ready to have dinner or lunch with some new found friends. This place fills up fast, especially on the weekends. This is a college/University town, so pizza is very popular with the students and young families.

Napoli Pizzeria & Restorante -  Italian food is in high demand in Weimar and so are the restaurants serving it.  Napoli serves good pizza and other Italian dishes as well. Napoli gets pretty crowded fast since it too is a small place.  It is well worth the visit.

Residenze Cafe Restaurant - This is a great place to dine on a sunny and warm day. They have tables in front of the restaurant/hotel with umbrellas. Very popular place because of the location as well as the good food. Try the Thuringen Brat with saurekraut and mashed potatoes, a very local dish.

Texas Bar & Restaurant- This is definitely an unusual find in a small German city, a bar and restaurant with a Texas motif, complete with a carved wooden replica of John Wayne! Yes, for real. The menu, as you could guess is comprised of a lot of Texas style dishes such as big burgers, ribs and other goodies. If you might be hankering for Texas food that is German in style, then this is the place. 

Versilia Restorante & Pizzeria - Once you've eaten here, you will be back. The food is great. Portions are large, almost too large since we were not taking a Doggie Bag back to the hotel. The Pizzas were good as were the pasta dishes and the salads. This is not an eat and run type of place. Service is good, but can be slow, especially on weekend nights. The place fills up fast in the evening, so go early. You will not be disappointed.

Elephant Hotel - There is a restaurant on the basement floor of the hotel. This is much more upscale dining in terms of price and choices. It is very good, especially if you want to try some of the regional dishes. Service is excellent and food is good.

In Weimar there is no shortage of bakeries and shops selling sweets and gelato. Almost on every street in the Old Town, you can find a bakery/coffee shop and they are all good.  The ones listed here are just a small sample of places to visit in the Old Town area.

Cafe Sternenback -  This cafe and bakery is located near one end of Schiller Street. It has an impressive array of baked goods that are tasty. The shop has tables inside, but also a number of tables located on the sidewalk. A wonderful place to sip a coffee drink and watch the Weimar world go by. The women who run the place don't speak English, but pointing and nodding usually works fine to make your choices.

Elmi Bakerei and Cafe- This is our favorite place for a morning cappuccino and pastry that we took back to our hotel room. There are a few tables in the store, but not much room for sitting and eating. The pastries and other breakfast treats are great.  A few of the young women serving customers speak some English and pointing and nodding works here too.

Giancarlo Coffee, Creperie & Gelato -- This establishment is not to be missed. They rival Baskins & Robbins, but for Gelato not ice cream. Many many different flavors are served in waffle cones, sugar cones or plastic cups. To die for is the bitter sweet chocolate gelato…OMG!  We have never tried the crepes or the coffee there, but when the weather is nice the tables in front of the place are all filled. Highly recommended.

ARKO Chocolate  -- If you like chocolate in its many forms, then this is a store you MUST visit. Even Willie Wonka would be envious. The store is at one end of Schiller Street, right across from the Cafe Sternenback. They feature a wide selection of truffle chocolates and there is a coffee bar with the usual coffee/espresso favorites.

Versilia Gelateria - This is our second choice for gelato, but sometimes our first, if we still have room for sweets after dining in the adjacent Versilia Italian restaurant. The gelato store is a popular place on warmer days when people can get a cone or a cup of gelato and hang out around the park across the street. The gelato is pretty good too.
